TEAM HOLOFIBER crosses the finish line at
Subaru Primal Quest.

Joining some of the great names in adventure racing competition, Holofiber was on the starting line at the Subaru Primal Quest in the Pacific Northwest. TEAM HOLOFIBER placed third, beating out 42 other teams and crossing the finish line a mere 50 minutes after the first two teams, which tied. The team covered 400 grueling miles in five and a half days, relying on Holofiber apparel to help keep them competitive.

“Finishing in the top five in a world-class adventure race such as Primal Quest seemed almost unattainable,” noted team captain Lawrence Foster. “When we stopped to sleep, our Holofiber clothes were the first thing we put on. When we woke up to start the next section of the race none of us were stiff or sore. We got faster! We were able to exceed our goals and come away with third!”

While the Holofiber sponsor name may be new, the faces of the team members are very familiar to adventure racing fans. Formerly known as Team Salomon Canada, TEAM HOLOFIBER is captain Lawrence Foster, Tamara Goeppel, Chad Ulansky and Martin Dryer, who raced at Primal Quest. Dave Zeitsma and Trish Westman are also team members.

Adventure racing is a multisport co-ed team endurance competition lasting anywhere from 3-5 hours to 10 days, nonstop. The sport challenges racers physically, mentally and spiritually while they explore and experience a wide range of backcountry terrain. Adventure racing encompasses a number of sports, including trekking, mountain biking, ride and tie (horseback riding), skating/ scootering, ocean kayaking, ropes, mountaineering, river paddling and orienteering (navigating using a map and compass) utilizing every muscle in the body and stretching them to the max.

Holofiber’s benefits make it a natural for the physical demands put on adventure racers. After the team placed first overall in the May, 2004, Africa Quest, team captain Foster stated, “Our Holofiber socks made all of the difference in the comfort in our feet. No major blisters for any of the team. We couldn’t wait to get our additional Holofiber gear.”

TEAM HOLOFIBER’s Holofiber gear currently includes tees and tights from Wickers Performancewear, socks from Great Canadian Sox Co., bicycle shorts and leggings custom made of Holofiber fabric from United Knitting and footbeds from Superfeet.

Subaru Primal Quest aired nationally in the United States on CBS, January 23, 2005. For more information on the race, visit www.subaruprimalquest .com. For more information about TEAM HOLOFIBER, visit www.adventureracers.ca.

TEAM HOLOFIBER’s next challenge is the Raid Ukatak, taking place in February in Ontario and Quebec, Canada. Noted Foster, “When losing digits to frostbite is a concern, so are our clothes. With Holofiber gear our team stays energized and warm during week-long winter races like Ukatak.”
